Profiles | Marc Calabretta

Marc has been with the HEC Lab since 2015. He started out as a Master’s student working with Heather, Onyx Sloan Morgan, and Huu-ay-aht First Nations on the tašiiʔakqin ʔuyaqḥmisukqin research project. His Master’s research engaged in community-based participatory and archival research methods to develop a comprehensive understanding of Huu-ay-aht’s journey through the negotiation of the Maa-nulth Treaty. Upon defending his thesis on Huu-ay-aht’s hahuułi in 2017, Marc became the Research Program Manager of the HEC Lab until 2022. Marc is now a PhD student in the department of Political Science at the University of Toronto but is continuing to work with the HEC Lab as a Research Associate. His current research interests lie at the intersection of international political economy, climate change, and climate finance.
