Catalyzing Intersectoral Collaborations on the Intersectional Public Health Impacts of Climate Displacement: Insights from British Columbia

Extreme weather events, including wildfires, floods, heatwaves, droughts, atmospheric rivers, hurricanes and other storms, displace millions of people around the world every year. Our team will explore the public health effects of recent displacements in British Columbia, particularly within priority populations, including people experiencing gender-based violence and Indigenous communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change. Our research will build knowledge on the public health effects of climate displacement in BC by amplifying the experiences of those most directly affected; advance and support intersectoral collaborations on the intersectional public health impacts of climate displacement; and strengthen and advance awareness of the distinct place-based health effects of climate displacement to promote proactive climate action and improved public health services for equitable health and well-being.
