Thesis: Developing a Community Readiness Model for the Strategic Improvement of Drinking Water in Small Communities

Abstract: A community’s fiscal, human and technological capacity can significantly impact the safety and reliability of its drinking water supply. My PhD research focuses on understanding these capacity challenges within the context of Canada’s small and rural communities. A series of interviews were conducted across Canada to understand how decisions related to drinking water are made at the community level, and how these decisions are then transformed into innovation solutions. This information is being used to develop tools to better understand local capacity issues and to build community readiness for change and ultimately, to ensure a high quality of drinking water.
