Arlanna Pugh

MSc Candidate – Epidemiology

Biography

Arlanna is a graduate student completing a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at Queen’s University. Her iArlanna Pugh_Headshotnterest in Indigenous health began while delivering a series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) camps across the Kitikmeot and Kivalliq regions of the Canadian Arctic. As a result, Arlanna took the opportunity to learn more about the contextual, cultural, and spiritual influences on Indigenous health while pursuing her Bachelor of Health Science degree at the University of Ottawa. Having gained valuable experience in knowledge translation as a summer research assistant, she hopes to continue to learn how to make research more accessible and relevant to all Canadians. She loves long-distance running, travelling across Canada and abroad, and meeting new people along the way.

Arlanna’s research interests include Indigenous health, environmental epidemiology, health systems and services research, and knowledge translation. Her research has spanned a broad range of topics, including development assistance for health (international health), clinical practice guidelines for hip osteoarthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (knowledge translation), and currently, the dynamics of accessing and delivering health care services among rural Indigenous peoples for her masters thesis.
